To protect the health and
safety of the public through the provision
of well-maintained streets, drainage systems, functional
public facilities, and City vehicles.
Department Functions
The Public Works Department has five divisions providing
municipal services in the following areas:

Administration
- Contract management for various activities including
custodial services, aquatic weed control, fire alarm
monitoring, fuel supply, garbage pickup, recyclables,
and street lights., Dept. of Corrections work crews,
pest control.
- Department administration including budget preparation
and management, personnel, coordination of emergency management
response services before and after a natural disaster.

Roads and Drainage
- Maintenance of public right-of-ways including 23.37
miles of public roadways, 55 medians, sidewalks, swales,
and litter pickup.
- Maintenance of public drainage systems including
452 inlets, pipes, retention areas, control structures,
2 city canals, and 4 lakes.
- Maintenance of traffic signage.

Vehicle Maintenance
- Maintenance of City fleet including repair and maintenance
of 101 vehicles and 138 small engine equipment.

Building Services
- Maintenance and repair of 18 public buildings and
facilities totalling 118,000 square feet.
- Minor reconstruction/renovation of Public facilities.

Parks and Grounds
- Maintenance of 13 Parks, 10 Public Building Grounds including landscaping, and irrigation.
- Improvement projects to Parks and Facilities.
